In 1759, Benjamin Franklin took his first journey from Philadelphia to Scotland. Franklin eagerly participated in the intellectual and cultural life of Edinburgh and formed lifelong friendships with some of the most important figures of the Scottish Enlightenment. It is in the spirit of that historic cultural exchange, EIXchange has created the "1759" Exchange between Philadelphia and Edinburgh, which we are delighted to announce will be our first full two way exchange in 2013.
From May 31st to July 12th, six artists working in the Philadelphia area were displayed in Edinburgh's largest, most vibrant and exciting arts venue, Summerhall, in Edinburgh, Scotland. And for the month of October several of Scotland's talented, engaging and emerging artists will be exhibited in Philadelphia at The Philadelphia Sculpture Gym's gallery. |
Future ExchangesWe are currently working on creating future international opportunities for artists. If you have ideas, contacts for a future exchange, or if you want to host or sponsor a future exchange - please contact us! We are open and excited about any ideas and collaborations that will benefit emerging artists on an international level.
